What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-based approach and engages both you and your clinician in a healing partnership. Our functional medicine practitioners, Dr. Dave Adamets (Hilliard) and Dr. Roy Korth (Grove City) listen to histories and look at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease; better addressing the healthcare needs of the 21st century.

Why Do We Need Functional Medicine?

1. Our society’s number of complex, chronic disease has increased significantly, including: autoimmune conditions, diabetes, inflammatory conditions, cancer, heart disease.

2. Most current health care practice(s) focus on acute care, the diagnosis and treatment of trauma and illness, such as acute infections or broken bones.

3. These acute care practices do not allow the proper methodology for addressing many chronic complex diseases.

4. Much of the current research functional medicine practitioners use today has not been incorporated into traditional medical care.

5. Many doctors lack proper training in chronic disease to apply strategies such as nutrition, supplementation, and lifestyle help and prevent the onset and advancement and many disease(s).

How Is Functional Medicine Different?

1. Patient Centered Care. Our functional medicine team members spend a significant amount of time with our patients on the initial and subsequent visits to ensure all contributory factors are addressed, ensuring patient success.

2. Science Based Healthcare approach. Our Clinicians look more upstream for the cause of illness and consider a patient’s complex history, physiology, and lifestyle that has contributed to a person’s current illness.

3. Integration. We integrate traditional, as well as alternative practices, utilizing latest laboratory testing and diagnostic techniques in order to prescribe targeted nutraceuticals, supplementation, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, and stress management techniques.
